The first set of photographs were taken in an ancient ash field just north of Cameron, Arizona. These mounds are what's left of ancient volcanic eruptions which covered the area with fine ash and cinder and killed large forests. There is petrified wood laying everywhere in these ash fields. The colors and starkness of the scene is what I imaging being on another planet would be like.
The second batch were taken just west of Tuba City, Arizona, in the "hoodoos" which are wind-carved stacks of rock and sandstone. Another unearthly scene, for sure!
These were all taken with a Canon 5D and the 16-35L lens. Enjoy!
